I treat every family portrait session as play time, and this mother-daughter photoshoot with Lydia and Kimi was no exception.

Knowing that little Kimi is a big foodie, we started off with tea time at Aberdeen Street Social at PMQ. The large windows there  offered natural light for photos of Kimi munching down her scones, and the restaurant wasn’t too crowded to create a non-distracting backdrop.

Though it was a sweltering summer afternoon, we strolled leisurely around the PMQ area, mainly on Staunton Street and Bridges Street. Not only there were some nice “Instagrammable” walls to shoot against, there was also a vintage car parked there, perfect as a foreground. How amazing that just playing a bit of peekaboo can make a child smile and laugh!

The day became too hot for us to stay outdoors, so we went inside for some air-conditioning for the last bit of the photoshoot. It’s great that we found a big window and beautiful staircase as a clean setting for more photos.

I love spending the time to interact with kids when photographing them, so that they feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. In this case, we snacked, hopped, poked, and tickled our way through our time together, and I’m so happy with the end result.

Thanks for such a fun time, Lydia and Kimi! Till next time!
