Interior Photography for Home Journal

I’m honored to be working again with Home Journal as the photographer for an interior feature in Sai Kung, Hong Kong. The stunning 3-story residence amongst village houses was a unique structure, with a curved facade and ample natural light through vast panes of windows.

The key to this photography assignment was to feature the views as well as the carefully designed interiors. With its garden view from the living room and the bay views on higher floors, the home truly had lots to offer.

The extraordinarily high ceilings in the living room gave me lots of angles to photograph with, and it helped to have the sculptural chandelier as a point of interest in the space. The home owner Donna brought in many beautiful art pieces from all over the world to give her home character. This included the aboriginal art by the front door and paintings in the living room.

With the amount of natural light coming through, I supplemented the lighting inside with speedlights with soft boxes. In terms of lighting, the most memorable room was the bathroom, when I was photographing the bathtub with the eye-catching teal wall. The clouds were shifting constantly, and my camera settings needed to be adjusted continuously. I’m so glad to have caught the “ah” moment, with the sunlight beaming through the windows and reflecting gloriously on the wall from the metal and glass surfaces.

Thank you to the home owner Donna for her gracious assistance throughout the photoshoot, and thank you to Home Journal for the assignment!
